Description
Product Name
FLD-Epoxy Micaceous Iron Oxide Intermediate Coat
Alias
MIO Epoxy Intermediate, Micaceous Iron Oxide Epoxy Coating, Flake-Reinforced Epoxy Mid-Coat, Barrier Epoxy Intermediate
Description
The FLD-Epoxy Micaceous Iron Oxide Intermediate Coat is a two-component, high-build epoxy coating formulated with micaceous iron oxide (MIO) pigments. The MIO platelets align parallel to the substrate surface, creating a complex, overlapping “leafing” structure that significantly enhances barrier protection. This intermediate coat effectively lengthens the diffusion path of moisture, oxygen, and corrosive ions, providing exceptional protection for steel structures in demanding environments. It also improves intercoat adhesion and acts as an excellent binding layer between primers and topcoats.
Key benefits:
-
Micaceous iron oxide flakes create a tortuous path, blocking moisture and corrosive agents.
-
High-build formulation allows rapid achievement of required dry film thickness.
-
Excellent resistance to UV degradation when used as a stand-alone finish or under topcoats.
-
Provides outstanding adhesion to properly prepared steel, zinc-rich primers, and subsequent topcoats.
-
Compatible with epoxy, polyurethane, fluorocarbon, and polysiloxane topcoats.
Typical applications: Steel bridges, offshore platforms, port equipment, chemical plants, storage tanks, wind towers, marine structures, and any industrial steelwork requiring long-term corrosion protection in high-humidity, salt-laden, or industrial atmospheres.
