FLDC Anti-Corrosion Coatings Support World-Class Yanji Yangtze River Bridge Ahead of Official Opening

The world’s largest-span four-main-cable suspension bridge — the Yanji Yangtze River Bridge — has successfully passed its completion acceptance on September 21, 2026, and is on track to open to traffic by the end of the year. As a core supporting river-crossing passage for Ezhou Huahu International Airport, this world-class mega project will fill the gap in river-crossing channels in the Wuhan-Ezhou-Huanggang metropolitan area, and greatly shorten travel time between Ezhou, Huanggang and Huangshi cities.

FLDC (Hubei Fulide Industrial Coatings), a leading local industrial anti-corrosion coating manufacturer, supplied its high-performance epoxy zinc-rich primer for the steel structures on both sides of the bridge deck, delivering reliable corrosion protection for this landmark infrastructure.

A World-Class Mega Infrastructure Project

The Yanji Yangtze River Bridge is the second river-crossing passage in the Ezhou-Huanggang area, spanning Ezhou and Huanggang cities in Hubei Province, China. Invested by Hubei Communications Investment Group, and constructed by CCCC Second Harbor Engineering and China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group, the bridge adopts a single-span river-crossing design with a main span of 1,860 meters. It is the world’s largest-span four-main-cable suspension bridge, and also the world’s first four-main-cable suspension bridge with varying sag degrees.

Rigorous Service Conditions, FLDC Secures First Line of Corrosion Defense

Anti-corrosion coating for bridge steel structures is critical to the long-term durability of cross-river bridges. Steel columns, guardrails and other metal components on both sides of the bridge deck are exposed to the open air year-round, enduring wind and rain erosion as well as temperature fluctuations, placing extremely high demands on the adhesion, corrosion resistance and durability of primers.

In accordance with the transportation industry standard Technical Specifications for Anti-Corrosion Coating of Highway Bridge Steel Structures (JT/T 722-2023), there are strict performance requirements for the primer layer of bridge steel anti-corrosion systems.

Leveraging over 20 years of technical accumulation in industrial protective coatings, FLDC provided high-quality epoxy zinc-rich primer products for the steel structures on both sides of the bridge deck, applied as the base anti-corrosion coating for structural components.

During construction, FLDC worked closely with the project team to coordinate product supply and on-site technical support. FLDC epoxy zinc-rich primer uses zinc powder as the main anti-rust component, with a dual anti-corrosion mechanism of cathodic protection + barrier isolation:

  1. The electrochemical protection effect of zinc powder provides active cathodic protection for metal components
  2. The dense paint film effectively isolates the steel plate from air, moisture and corrosive media, preventing metal oxidation and rust

The product meets design requirements in key anti-corrosion performances such as adhesion, salt spray resistance and impact resistance, laying a solid foundation for the long-term stable service of the metal structures on both sides of the bridge.

20+ Years of Deep Cultivation in Industrial Protection, Continuously Supporting National Key Projects

Founded in 2001 and headquartered by the Yangtze River, FLDC has been committed to the mission of “providing high-performance protective coating solutions”. From this world-class bridge along the Yangtze River to major power, petrochemical, marine engineering projects across the country, FLDC has always been a trusted partner for industrial anti-corrosion protection.

The participation in the Yanji Yangtze River Bridge project with epoxy zinc-rich primer is a strong testament to FLDC’s product strength and service capability. Moving forward, FLDC will take this opportunity to continue increasing R&D investment and strictly controlling product quality, delivering higher-quality anti-corrosion coating products to support the development of a transportation power, and contributing “FLDC strength” to more national mega projects.
